Anne McClorey McLaughlin
In more than 30 years as a litigator and advisor to local governments, Anne McClorey McLaughlin has time and again obtained excellent results for her clients. She has litigated and tried cases involving an extensive variety of issues and claims affecting municipal governments, officials and employees under both Michigan and federal law. These include civil rights and constitutional claims, class actions, land use and zoning, police misconduct and use of force, general municipal and official liability, discrimination, wrongful termination, and actions under the Freedom of Information and Open Meetings Acts - and those are just for starters.
A quick study, Anne swiftly wraps her arms around the facts and the law in each case to develop a strategy to bring the case to a final disposition that best benefits her clients. She deftly handles all stages of litigation, focusing on the best possible outcome for her clients, so her clients can focus on serving the public. Anne regularly practices in every level of the state and federal court systems in Michigan, having argued before the Michigan Court of Appeals and Supreme Court, and the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, Ohio. She also represents municipal entities and officials before state and federal administrative and regulatory agencies.
In addition to her litigation practice, Anne counsels boards, councils and commissions and municipal departments on ordinance enforcement, land use and planning, construction projects, personal and real property tax and regulatory issues, special assessments, election law, water and sewer issues, legislative amendments and updates, and many other aspects of municipal operations. Her experience and expertise have proven invaluable in helping clients both to mitigate the effects of losses that have already occurred and to manage their risk to avoid future liability.
